Education Center Courses & Classes

We live at over a 5,000 foot elevation with four seasons. We have a long winter of freezes and snow followed by a brief Spring and a long, hot and dry Summer. Thus our growing period is limited. Rainfall is typically sparse. There is a thin layer of soil over decomposed granite bedrock with abundant boulders. We are dependent on our own water supply from rain and winter snow melting and flowing in our streams. And local wildlife – squirrels, chipmunks, voles and gophers, birds and even bears compete for our harvests.

The programs and classes we offer address and attempt to conquer these adverse conditions. In them, we invite collaboration and sharing of knowledge and expertise with local old-timers and to refine our practices through experimentation, trial and error.
